WATER (for class A fires)
Water Fire Extinguishers are safe to use on fires involving various solids such as coal, wood, paper, & fabrics etc. they should never be used on any other class of fire especially involving live electrical equipment. They work by cooling the fire thus removing one factor of the famous fire triangle which comprises of three things: heat, fuel, & oxygen.

FOAM (for classes A & B fires)

Foam based fire extinguishers are also safe to use on class A fires as is water above, but they can also be used on fires involving flammable liquids such as petrol, paraffin, other solvents, & oil fires etc (class B). AFFF foam fire extinguishers provide limited protection against electrocution up to 35 kv if inadvertently used on live electrical equipment, but as is the case for water fire extinguishers all foam fire extinguishers including AFFF should never be used on fires involving live electrical equipment. Foam works by cooling & smothering the fire thus removing oxygen as well as heat.

CO2 (for class B fires)

Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers can be used on class B fires, & fires involving live electrical equipment. There use out of doors however can be inhibited because of wind blowing the gas away. They work by starving the fire of oxygen and to a certain extent cools down the fire.

POWDER
There are four types of powder fire extinguisher one suitable for classes A, B, & C fires (class C fires involve any kind of flammable gas), the powder class B & C, and two specialist class D powders for fires involving flammable metals, one type has the added advantage of being suitable for fires containing lithium. The class D fire extinguishers have a special applicator which is lance like with a cowl at one end, designed to drop the powder on the fire gently, thus preventing any burning metal embers being thrown around the room or building. The ABC & BC powder fire extinguishers are also suitable for use on fires involving live electrical equipment, whereas the class D type is not. Powder works by smothering the fire.
WET CHEMICAL (for classes A & F fires)

Wet chemical fire extinguishers are a specialist type for use in commercial kitchens on cooking fat/oil fires including chip pans and deep fat fryers, it can be used on class A & class F fires. Some models have a special lance like applicator which gently applies the extinguishing medium on the fire, and provides a safe distance from the fire to the Extinguisher operator.

FIRE BLANKETS
We also supply fire blankets manufactured to BS EN 1869: 1997 of various sizes for use in kitchen fires involving cooking oil/fat pans & clothing fires on personnel. Smothering a burning oil fire in a container, or someone who's clothes are on fire, starves the fire of oxygen thus extinguishing it.
